Shoestring Children's Theater Co.
Welcome to SCTC's official site! We are a very unique theater company designed for children. Whether your child has a lot of acting experience or is thinking of trying something new...they'll find that perfect fit here at Shoestring Children's Theater Company.
We feel it is important that kids find their courage in their own imagination and feel comfortable taking risks in our safe and non judgemental atmosphere. We want each of our students to question, examine, and look at things in a new way. We encourage them to find their own path in whatever area in the performing arts they may be interested in.
SCTC is a company owned by children that invites
each student to suggest, create, and help in the
entire theatrical experience!

THEATRE IN OUR SCHOOLS
What Makes Us Unique?
From program to performance your child's theater experience is unique from the start! Not only do we offer a range of acting opportunities, but we offer other ways your child could step into theater without even being on the stage.
The material we choose to produce isn't just picked from the same places all the other companies do...we choose local authors of childrens books and breathe life into their stories on the stage for the public to enjoy.
And our performances offer up their own creative experiences that is uniquely connected to each production.
So not only are the students at SCTC getting a creative approach to their theatrical experience, they are also promoting literacy in our community and are part of a theatrical adventure they will never forget. READ MORE >

OUR STORY
The Story of Shoestring Children's Theater Company
Once upon a time (1997) there were two moms that were friends. Each mom had 3 children that shared a common bond...they were all "Drama Kings and Queens!" Loving their children very much they looked and looked all over the kingdom for a program that would help their children continue exploring their imagination, creativity and boundless energy. To their dismay, they found no such program that encompassed it all. Desperate to share the "yellow brick road" of the performing arts with their children they decided to embark on an adventure they would never forget.
They set off on their journey with little supplies, but with huge hearts and determination. They began creating skits, costumes, and sets out of what they could find around their castle...all with the help of their wonderful kids. After a lot of fun together, all of the kingdoms were hearing about this wonderfully fun, exciting adventure. And soon everyone else wanted to join in their fun. So these two moms shared their joy with everyone and it grew and it grew into a program for anyone to enjoy throughout all the surrounding kingdoms.
Even though the two moms eventually found themselves living in different kingdoms (Ohio and Colorado) the beginning of their vision continues with Sara Brown. She continues the ancient traditions loved by all, and has added the new element of adapting children's books, written by local authors, to be performed on the stage. Now the adventure continues with the wonderous benefits that theater arts bless upon anyone that experiences it, and promotes literacy in their kingdom and the surrounding kingdoms as well.
"I am truly blessed. I am fortunate enough to do what I absolutely love doing in this world." -Sara Brown, Founder and CEO
Today Shoestring Children's Theater Company performs all over our community with performances that breathe life into childrens books, promoting literacy and the magic of the performing arts.
"We aren't just a children's theater company looking for actors...but welcome any child that wants to get involved in any aspect of the entire process. We offer a safe and non judgemental environment for any child between the ages of 8-18 years with any level of experience. We even offer an older teenage/young adult mentorship program too for those that would love to share their wisdom to the younger children."-Sara Brown
Really there is a "perfect fit" for any child here at Shoestring Children's Theater Company.
So explore our web site and let us know if you have any questions.

Well, we got creative when the economy got difficult and instead of spending a lot of money on our own building...we use community spaces to perform in so we have more money to create the magical experience for you to enjoy. Flower Man-Information The Flower Man December, 2012 by Mark Ludy
What happens when the Flower Man steps into a colorless world? Behind every window lies a different story in this unique wordless book. This is a tale of a humble man, full of life, his garden and his neighbors.
Shoestring Children's Theater Company will adapt this incredible book on stage in a one of a kind performance with original music and no words spoken. That's right! All our actors will be keeping to the original story and will convey the many incredible stories to the audience without saying a word, as the notes of the music enhance the emotional path of each character as their lives unfold.
It will be a show you and your family can see over and over again and get to know more characters each time.

HILDEGARDE AND THE GREAT GREEN SHIRT FACTORY
by Ravay Snow
"Shoestring Children's Theater Company is great! As a Colorado author and illustrator and a former educator, I cannot stress how unique and valuable a servise this group provides for its members and the Aurora community through its outreach programs in local schools and shopping malls and its work with the Aurora Symphony Orchestra.
I first met Sara Brown, troupe director, when she attended a book signing for my book, "Hildegarde and the Great Green Shirt Factory" in spring of 2007. She was interested in working with me to adapt it for a future stage production. I soon attended one of SCTC's shows, and adaptation of a friend's book. It was impressive; not only were children involved as actors, they also acted as lighting directors, set designers, and costume designers.
Since then, I have worked with the group on an interactive reading adaptation of Hildegarde (in which I was the narrator), a number of school bookfairs, and, most recently, and original play developed for production at the Aurora Symphony's 2009 spring children's concert. The ways in which the children learn and grow with this program-socially, intellectually, and as citizens-never fail to amaze and inspire me.
Perhaps the most valuable thing about SCTC, however, is that it really sparks its members' literary imagination. These children are becoming lifelong readers and writers and artists, largely because of their involvement with SCTC. It is absolutely an invaluable resource!"
-Ravay Snow
Hildegarde isn't just one of the flock.
She's creative!
She's artistic!
But at the Great Green Shirt Factory, where she works, every shirt is supposed to be identical.
It's not easy.
She likes to make things that are unique. But her boss laughs at her. He says she's just a ewe.
A ewe is a female sheep, but Hildegarde's much more than an oridinary sheep.
What do you think she does next?

Continue working on your skits! Take your time. Revise, revise, REVISE, REVISE!!!!!! Ask a teacher to look it over. Ask your parents to read it. Read it aloud to a family member so you can hear how it sounds. Remember, do not be preachy...don't teach what to do and what not to do. We want to be fun, and humerous and SHOW what the correct choice would be.
We won't be really looking at these skits in detail until March. So you have plenty of time to work on it. But don't forget about it! Keep working a little bit at a time until it is absolutely perfect! :-)
